How the day works :

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

The day’s events begin at the California State Capitol, at 8 AM with opening ceremonies, including greeting of legislators, and group photos for all who have purchased the $26.00 registration fee (per person). This fee also includes a box lunch, souvenir program, certificates, recognition, guest speakers, workshops and hours of prize-winning performances.

The Opening Ceremony begins at 8 AM in the California State Capitol building. Arrive at 7:30 AM for entrance into the California State Capitol building.  Only those delegates who have paid the preregistered $26.00 on or before Feb 22, 2011, will be seated for the opening festivities. There is no on-site registration.

At 8:40 AM, each delegate will visit legislators, then walk to the Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) at 1419 H Street (916) 446-7501 for continental breakfast and hour-by-hour performances, lunch and workshops. CETA certificates will be presented during the day to the performing delegates.

Each performer is to wear any costume and bring small hand props as needed. Bring your own CD player for any musical accompaniment. No piano will be available. STC will provide 4 chairs ONLY.

All monologues and solo performances be a maximum of 4 minutes; duo performances a maximum of 5 minutes; group performances a maximum of 8 minutes. No school may have combined performances of more than 10 minutes. You may have to cut songs and scenes to fit the time limits. If you go overtime, it will affect the day’s events. Please be professional and perform within the time limits.  It is recommended that you get performance rights for your published material for a festival performance.

ALL MATERIAL MUST BE G-RATED. We have students as young as 10 years old (and their grandmothers!) in the audience. You may not say any of the following words in your performances: "god***n," "sh*t," "f*ck," "bitch" or similar words or portray adult actions or themes.

There will be workshops for the delegates. All morning performing students are to be audience members for the morning performers; the afternoon performers and their instructors are audience members for the afternoon performers.  When the delegates and educators are not audience members, they are to attend the interactive workshops we provide and travel to the Capitol for appointments with legislators.

At lunch everyone gathers on the patio for the box lunches, during which time performances will continue, so all delegates remain at STC during the lunch time.

At approximately 4:00 PM,  everyone will gather for our Closing Ceremonies which conclude the day’s events. After 4:00 PM, some delegates may take the self-guided tour of the Capitoll or take the trolley to Old Sacramento for shopping and food.  Do not make any travel arrangements to leave STC earlier than 4:30 PM. We request that teachers schedule air transportation from Sacramento after 6:30 pm.

After the day’s events, all students return to their homes, so that no school is missed on March 16, 2011.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS SO THAT ALL PERFORMING STUDENTS AND REGISTERED DELEGATES ARRIVE AT THE CAPITAL NO LATER THAN 7:30 AM. It takes approximately 40 minutes to travel from Sacramento Airport to the capitol.  We request that teachers schedule air transportation from Sacramento after 6:30 pm.
